An hour later, Hans was in the second floor bathroom, filling a small metal bowl with warm water and tucking several white towels under his arm. The rules were simple: no one bothers him about who he brought home and no one goes into the attic upstairs… no one at all. Even if they asked for his permission, he’d refuse. They can’t see he saved Heinkel… if they did, she would be dead.

There were only three bedrooms in the entire house: one in the attic and two on the second floor. Rip received one due to an argument that she was the only girl in the house and needed her privacy. There was a fight for the second room and Walter won since he had the worse injuries in the house. For the rest of them, Tubalcain claimed the loveseat, Dok got the large sofa in the study on the second floor, and Schrödinger, for some odd reason, got the rug right in front of the fireplace. Maybe it was a cat thing…

As for Hans, he stayed up in the attic… sleep was unimportant to him right now… Dok can’t see Heinkel, so he has to take care of her until she’s well. He sighed and turned the water off, watching the steam rise from the surface before turning carefully and walking upstairs.

The attic was small, but comfortable and spacious. He bumped open the door and peeked in, frowning a bit to hear a small, painful moan from the bed. He quietly walked over, kicked the door shut and sat at the edge of her bed, staring down at her. Her face, though covered with bandages, was swollen and red from the gunshot wound and the heat from the fire. Her arm was wrapped up in a sling, her entire chest and upper torso were wrapped tightly with gauze. He sighed and tucked the cool blankets more around her throbbing body, trying not to wake her or hurt her more. Her injuries weren’t serious, no third degree burns, but there was much bruising around the ribs and her leg was broken… she had to stay here until everything was cured… which would take more than a month… maybe until spring.

As carefully as he could, he slipped an arm behind her back and lifted her up slowly. She winced slightly but didn’t wake… good. She would be out for a long time from the pain medication he gave her… hopefully Dok wouldn’t notice some of it gone. He leaned her back against his chest, resting her head onto his shoulder, and began unwrapping the bandages off her face. She whimpered pitifully and painfully, rolling her head to the side so it was nuzzled into Hans’s neck. The werewolf actually blushed slightly at the sudden touch and the warm breath on his skin… it actually felt… very pleasant… no! Don’t think about it now… need to take care of her first… grabbing the washcloth, he dipped it into the hot water and softly washed off the blood and soot from her swollen and injured face.

She flinched as soon as he touched her, but softly whimpered and went limp, leaning a little against the cloth. He couldn’t help but smile at this. It was almost… cute, to see her like that. During the war, she looked like an angry killing machine… and now she’s snuggling against him? He sighed and put the cloth back into the bowl, now staining the water dark red. She looked a little better with the blood and soot off… she was probably feeling better too… now asleep and some pain gone… good, very good. He absentmindedly rested his chin on the top of her head and sighed. Hmmm… she was very soft… felt very nice…

A soft knock interrupted his work and he growled softly. He said he didn’t want to be disturbed! Who was this!?! “Hans, it’s me,” a small voice called. He blinked and sighed sadly… it was Rip Van Winkle… and it sounded like she was crying recently. He couldn’t blame her, really. He felt bad that she lost the love of her life… really he did… but what did she want with him? “Hans, please let me come in. I know you said not to… but I brought up some soup… and a blanket, I thought you might need it.” Hans sighed and sniffed the air. He did smell soup… she wasn’t lying. He shook his head and growled. Maybe one person can know… besides, it was Rip Van Winkle! Even if she did knew, she was too upset to go around spreading the news… poor girl.

He opened the door for her and winced to see tears in her eyes and bandages wrapped tightly around her neck.  She was still healing from the war, but at least she would be all right… in a sense. “Please… I have to know, how is he?” she whimpered softly, shivering weakly. Hans rose and eyebrow and glanced back at Heinkel. Well… she did have some boyish features… the hair cut and some features in her face made her look slightly… like a male, but she was still a girl! Hans looked back and slowly nodded. Yeah, she can look at her… what for, he doubted she hardly knew the Iscariot girl. “Oh, thank you so much, Hans!” she cried and pushed past him, quickly handing him the soup and blanket, careful not to spill the hot food all over his shirt.

He glanced back at Rip and winced to see her standing over the bed, staring with shock at Heinkel. “This… this isn’t him,” Rip murmured and stepped away slowly. “Hans… where is he?” she demanded sharply. “Where is Luke!?!” Hans froze and lowered his head. Of course… she thought he found Luke Valentine, not Heinkel… he sighed and shook his head, trying not to look at her crumpling face. It was too painful… when Luke died during his fight with Alucard many months ago, Hans was with Rip for days, trying to comfort her and listening to her shriek with horrific sobs. And the worst part was… during the war, while she was lying on the ground, weak and in pain from the burns, she saw Luke again… being tortured horrifically by Walter… she had the worst luck in the entire group of survivors.

“D-did you even look for him?” Rip whimpered, walking closer to him. Hans swallowed hard and shook his head. Her eyes widened and she shuddered. “Wh-what… Hans why!?! He could be out there, alive and in pain!!! He needs to be saved! “She grabbed his coat tightly and pulled his face close to hers. “Hans, I am begging you… please, I can’t live without him… please Hans… find him and bring him here… pl-please…” Her sharp cries turned into soft whispers as she lowered her head and pressed it against his chest, sobbing quietly. “Please Hans… I love him…”

Hans frowned and looked away, staring at the sleeping Heinkel for a moment. There was a big chance Luke was dead… a very big chance… then again, the others didn’t have a chance of surviving either… and they did… including himself. He sighed, moved away from Rip and lifted her chin slowly. She sniffled and stared at him, eyes widening when he nodded. “Y-you’re going to find him…?” she squeaked and he nodded again. She trembled and cried out, hugging him tightly. “Oh, thank you so much, Hans!!! Thank you, I owe you my life!” She pulled back to kiss both his cheek and stepped back quickly. “You won’t regret it… please hurry, he might need help right now!” He nodded and sighed… hopefully, she was right… he hoped Luke was alive… if not…

Her face suddenly paled and she grabbed her mouth. Hans gasped and grabbed her as she doubled over, muffling a gag. She gasped for air and sighed. “I… I’m fine…” she sighed and stood up slowly. “I’m okay, it’s probably just…” Her eyes widened and she grabbed her mouth again. She quickly shook her head and ran off, making it to the bathroom just in time. Hans stared as she ran off, very confused. She’s sick, too? Great, just perfect… must have been all the smoke she inhaled… and all the crying and stress about Luke… it’ll get better in several days, she’ll be fine… he hoped.

He sighed and glanced at Heinkel. He needed to get supplies… and find Luke… if he was there. He walked to the sleeping girl, leaned down and tucked the blanket around her sore body. At least she was asleep, safe and warm. Without realizing it, he reached down and stroked her hair back with his fingertips. It felt very soft, like silk almost… just had to wash out some of the burnt tips of hair and wash the blood and soot off… he felt his face warm up suddenly and he quickly drew back. What was… did he blush!?!

He shook his head vigorously and growled. Don’t get foolish… he tugged his coat on tightly and grabbed his hat. He needed to go into town… find medical supplies for Heinkel, find food for the others and… find that Valentine boy for poor Rip. He gave Heinkel a quick glance, nodded and walked quietly out the door. He had to find Rip and ask her if she could watch Heinkel before he left… and he knew just where she was… still throwing up in the bathroom.
Damn, how long has it been!?! Sorry for not writing in a while... school is finally over and I can get back to writing! Sorry if it's a little small and a bit rushed... I'm having a major writer's block, but it's getting better!

So Hans is taking care of Heinkel, which to me is very cute... but her injuries are pretty bad... he might have to tell Dok about it... along with Rip. XD Poor thing... I feel bad, she misses Luke and, if any of you read what Walter did to him in book 9... (which was completely unnessisary!!!) there's not a good chance Hans is going to find him alive... poor Luke, why did Walter do all that!?! Who besides me started crying during that part!?!

Chapter 4 will be up very soon...
